FM Radio: A Battle thats "good sound" to ears!!

We've heard of battles in the history & wars in the corporate world!!AD-Wars... Cola wars etc etc... But this time its a war thats music to ears.Yess.. I'm talking about RADIO!!
As everyone who knows me is aware that I'm an ardent fan of the radio... to an extent that my ultimate dream in life is to run an FM channel that plays non-stop DJ music 24x7!
OK the radio has gained its importance back in the recent days & is now growing at a fast pace!! As per what I herd from someone, there are plans to have 270 radio stations by the end of the year!
Lets talk about the stations in Delhi for now.

There are at present 9 commercial & 2 community channels on air in the city.
91.1 -Radio City: One of the oldest & the best Radio Stations in Delhi. Check out the Breakfat Show with RJ Mehak.
92.7 -Big FM: An initiative of the Adlabs group. They plan to have a station in every town in the country. As per the recent news, they're re doing their programming format. Lets see what it has in store!
93.5 -Red FM: One of the best stations in town. The RJs are simply too good & the music well chosen.Nittin is someone you need to listen to.. He's an award winning RJ.
94.3 -Radio One: An initiative by mid-day. The channel is still trying to work its way to be the best.
95.0 -Hit FM: No RJs all music!! They play good english as well as hindi hits! Great format!
98.3 -Radio Mirchi: Again one of the best! Nice programming all oiver the stations.102.6 -AIR FM RainbowWell one of our good old All India Radio Challels.
104.0 -Fever FM: An initiative of Hindustan Times. They're amongs the middle level & are constantly inovating to reach the top bracket.
104.8 -Radio Meow: A new initiative of the India Today group. Their strategy is absolutely different. More Talk- Less Music. They also call themselves as the station for women! Interesting phone in discussions. Must check it out!
106.4 -AIR FM Gold: Well the name says it all!
105.6 -Gyan Vani, Delhi: Well the name says it all!

There are two other (Community Radio) channels, also catering to a limited set of people:
90.4 -Radio Jamia
96.9 -IIMC Radio

Some interesting facts that I gathered from the internet:
(Source: Key Findings from Madison Media Research)

* Radio has a reach of 56% and there is a distinct skew towards males.
* Radio Mirchi is the most popular station and is tuned by people in SEC A and B.
* People listen to FM at home (70%), while driving (32%), at public places (9%) and at the office (7%).
* Almost 51% of the people listen to FM for an average time of one hour and another 39% listen to FM for a longer period of 1-3 hours.
* Sunday listenership is dramatically low with only 10% of the people tuning in to FM vs. weekdays where the number of tune-ins is as high as 94%.
* Majority of the people listen to Hindi film songs (63%), followed by Hindi pop (40%), remixes (37%) and English pop (33%).

So... They way things are going in the country, looks like we'd be on the lines of the international trends in some years. ...And thats when I can think of realising my dreams of starting up with my kinda channel! :)

Well.. Guess thats all from my side for now.Stay tuned!
